Procrastination Report: CAKE VS. PIE

I'm having one of those rare days when I've suddenly become so productive that it scares me. So, I have no choice but to engage in the vital work of pitting cake against pie to determine baked supremacy -- THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE DESSERT.

The seeding isn't mine -- I dunno where it came from -- but they seem about right for general popularity. I'll be damned if I've ever seen a "Funfetti" cake or a "French Silk" pie; the latter sounds dirty.

Being much more of a pie fan, watching the carnage on that side was especially trying -- particularly seeing two of my biggest personal favorites fall in the opening round; Banana Cream and Pumpkin could have made a far better showing against lesser opposition.

I imagine that Lemon Meringue Pie could have defeated Carrot Cake had it not been so weakened from the crucible of facing off against almost every one of my most-favored pies [Pumpkin, Peanut Butter, Pecan and Cheesecake] to reach the Finals. Had this been a round-robin or team competition, Cake would have lost handily to Pie's far deeper bench -- very much an '80s Celtics vs. Lakers kind of thing.
